The Reckoners kicks off a new contemporary fantasy romance series about a
young woman once mentored by a ghost and now leading a ghostbuster team,
all of whom tangle with a fiercely driven demon-hunter from a different dimension.
For when Lisa McGarrity and her team come across an intruder in a client's
spirit-infested house and he claims to need their help, they're skeptical.
When he tells them of trouble at the Winchester Mystery House--San Jose's
riddle of a mansion built first to draw ghosts and now a steady stream of
tourists--they're even less inclined to believe. But when inexplicable, deadly
events rock the city to its core, they're forced to help the mysterious Trevarr...secrets
and all.
(This was a blast to write! The fun of playing with this Southwestern setting,
the supernatural rules I've put into play, the characters (Trevarr and Lisa
McGarrity are not to be taken lightly!) and even the whisker-licking, bug-crunching
familiar...)

Deep River Reckoning is a short story set in The Reckoners series:
the journey of a woman recently passed strikes close to home for Garrie
and Trevarr, as together--living and dead--they help the damaged spirits
of those creatures killed in an illegal toxic substance dump.
(I wanted an excuse to write a Reckoners story, so I ran a contest...the
winner shared a few details to allow me to jump start the ghost. Of course,
as uncontrollable as my muse is, she quickly did as she wanted to with those
details. It was a great start,
and a pleasure to work with the ghostly namesake!)

Dale Kinsall considers himself adjusted to his new location--to the eccentric
nature of his clinic staff, to the altitude and climate of the high desert, to
his new role in his community. The vet who solved the eco-murders. Of course,
he doesn't anticipate the threatening series of bizarre rhyming notes on his
desk, or the cavalier attitude of the local cops who were embarrassed that they
didn't solve those particular eco-murders. Soon enough, everything's happening
at once: the clinic is upside down over renovations, Laura's nephew is deathly
ill, and then Laura herself is hit by the same feared virus shortly before Dale
is blindsided in a brutal attack. Dale is the only one who thinks it might not
all be coincidence...but everyone else pretty much thinks he's nuts.
Everyone but Sully Beagle, that is. For Sully knows cookies, and he knows
what's his...and he knows the scent of danger.
PS: Yes, those of you who have visited the Dogplay Pages
might indeed recognize a Certain Beagle on that cover...
"..Fans will enjoy this fun Arizona cozy.."

"Good escapist reading."
--Library Journal Review
"Doranna Durgin writes a symphony of characters with the skill and complexity
of Tchaikovsky. What a pleasure to catch up with Dale and Sully in their latest
adventure. Bravo! More, please!"

Excerpt from Elizabeth Moon's Forward
for Dun Lady's Jess
"....Dun Lady's Jess is unique. Durgin has created a character who is utterly believable as both horse and horse-in-human-body. The setup is brilliant: the magic that causes the transformation is not in the horse, but external, and the creature that is Dun Lady's Jess must adapt, must find an identity that works in both paradigms. Humans who encounter her, in either body, must also adapt to the reality that created her and that she represents. She cannot be, any longer, just another mare...she cannot be, ever, just another woman...."
