Agility Trial Photos
Deer Valley AZ, January '04 (AKC) While Belle was busy earning her first two AKC Excellent legs with blue ribbons and (!!!) two High in Class awards, Jean-Luc tackled his first Open Jumpers in AKC. Unlike NADAC, the AKC jumpers courses have weave poles, and although Jean-Luc does lovely, speedy, consistent weave poles in the back yard, off-site has always been another thing altogether...
Jean-Luc did nail the weaves on his first run, but Yrs Trly offered up a handling error that cost him the leg. The second day he got a severe case of Happy-Tail that cost him the weaves and the leg. For Jean-Luc, Happy-Tail is as much an achievement as a clean run, so we celebrated anyway. The photographer on course happened to catch him going over the triple with his Silly Dog face. Here he is...

This is Belle in backyard practice in prep for the trial; she's going over raised jumps to get her thinking about the bars. I was also doing "switch" exercises (the switch command tells the dog they're changing direction over the fence so they can change lead legs), and you can see her looking in the new correct direction, with her legs arranged to come down on the proper lead. This has been a hard one for my little "cling-on" Corgi to learn, since the handler footwork means she has to move out ahead of me and she prefers it if I hold her paw all the way. (Nope, this isn't black and white--just a blue merle on dead grass on a grey winter day.) ![]() Grand Images Patty Davis PO Box 42493 Phoenix, AZ 85080 1853 Saturday February 07 2004 |
