Starring the Beagle Boys

ConneryBeagle wanted to write this post, but it took me too long to put the video together, and he went to bed.

It’s a longish video and it makes pretty clear that when your feet are permanently sore, you run kinda funny most of the time.

BUT if you want to see all the smarty pants remarks, you’ll just have to watch it anyway.

What good boys!  Does that Dart look like he might just be growing up, or what?

(Well.  Sometimes.)

Me to Judge: *hastening to collect wildly off-course Beagle*  He’s a very HAPPY dog.

Judge: I had sensed that.

PS Yes, I’m wearing shorts on Day 2.  They’re just sort of pinkish.

    Thanks for this, Doranna. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Connery so obviously enjoying himself, A-Woo! And Dart–my goodness, you’re going to need roller skates when he devotes all his attention to running. This all happens so fast, must be hard to remember where to go and what to do and who you’re with and . . . . !

    Connery and Dart are very different dogs who need very different handling at trials. (At home, they’re more alike, which just makes it more confusing!) One thing the videos show me is that I’m sometimes clapping for Connery in a way that’s more appropriate for Dart (although with reason–blind chute moments or “watch me and not that trap!” moments), so I’ll need to be more thoughtful about that.

    Dart needs a drill sergeant. Connery needs, “I’ve got your back, buddy! Go get it!”

    And yeah…once Dart devotes all that energy to “forward!”… Well, I hope by then I can work a little distance with handling lines, and not run his path so closely. (I have to run Connery’s path that closely for the support it gives him.)

    One thing that amuses me in the videos is that Dart doesn’t look that much faster, but his times are a bit faster than Connery’s even with his piddling around, and then if you watch my legs, they’re moving faster with longer strides… He’s going to be so much fun!

    I think what I love best is that it shows what very different dogs they are, but that they do both love it. 8)

    Connery is definitely singing, “Me! It’s Me!” ;> But that’s one of the ways I got him through the trauma of the attacks. He didn’t bay at the start line until I developed it as a way to put him in a confident frame of mind (he certainly didn’t bay all over the course as he did this weekend–!)

    Most everyone wants me to get Dart to do it, too–but the difference is, Connery has always sounded off in practice, and Dart never, ever does. I’m trying to put his infrequent excitement barks on cue, but it’s hard when they come so seldom!

    That’s funny, them being so different. Just goes to show that there’s no such thing as a “typical attitude” for a dog breed.

    They make me want to go get a Beagle. lol

    The funny thing is that although they are so different, they’re also very much both Beagles–there are definite breed traits, and commonalities in attitudes/training. Connery is the more typical Beagle; Dart is an unusual personality any way you look at it–and not one his breeder had produced before!

    What grand Beagle Boys! And Babette is still wondering why “Look at me!” and “Come!” are necessary commands! (She sat on my lap and “Aroo’d” with Connery, btw.) Your patience and skill in training is amazing!
